چکیده
Introduction:Pancreatic divisum (PD) is a condition that develops if the embryonic fusion of the dorsal and the ventral pancreas buds at the gestational age of 6 weeks is incomplete. The failure of fusion between these two pancreatic ducts results in a short and narrow duct in the head of the pancreas that drains through the major papilla (ventral duct) and a much longer duct that drains most of the pancreatic secretions through the minor papilla (dorsal duct). The prevalence of PD has been reported to be approximately 7% to 12.6% in western populations and is the most common congenital pancreatic anatomical variant. On the other hand, it is relatively uncommon in Asia with an estimated incidence of less than 2% in the general population. Case 1:

Clinical implications of incomplete pancreas divisum.
CONTEXT Incomplete pancreas divisum is a pancreatic anomaly that results in an inadequate communication between the ventral and dorsal pancreatic ducts. Although the relationship between complete pancreas divisum and pancreatitis has been contentious, clinical implications of incomplete pancreas divisum have not been noted. OBJECTIVE This study was done to investigate the clinical significanc...

AIM To clarify the features of acute or chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic tumors associated with complete and incomplete pancreas divisum. METHODS Clinical features of pancreatic diseases associated with complete (n = 54) and incomplete (n = 50) pancreas divisum were examined. RESULTS Acute and chronic pancreatitis occurred more frequently in patients with complete pancreas divisum (22.2%...

متن کاملPancreas Divisum: On Life Support, But Not Quite Dead
Pancreas divisum, the failure of fusion of the dorsal and ventral pancreatic ductal systems in utero, is the most common congenital abnormality of the pancreas. The clinical significance of pancreas divisum is often considered when it is found in patients with idiopathic acute or recurrent pancreatitis. With increasing use of magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatog...
